Orbit helps you see when the people you care about are awake. It's built to share as little as possible: your city at most, never your exact location. Orbit has no ads, no tracking and no third-party analytics, and we never sell your information.
When you sign in with Apple, Orbit receives a private user identifier from Apple and, if you choose, your name. Orbit then keeps a profile in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) so the people in your orbit can see it. Your profile can include:
People you add by hand, and any phone numbers or emails you save for them, stay on your device.
If you allow it, Orbit uses your location on your device only to work out which city and time zone you're in. Your precise location is never uploaded or shared. With "Always" permission, Orbit uses Apple's significant-change monitoring to notice when you arrive in a new city, so your people can get one gentle note. You can change this at any time in Settings.
Orbit only opens your contacts, camera or photos when you ask it to: to pick a contact to add, scan someone's code, or choose a profile photo. Contacts are read on your device and not uploaded. Only the photo you choose is stored with your profile.
Only people who have connected with you in Orbit, through your invite code or link. Your information is stored by Apple in iCloud and protected in transit. We don't share it with anyone else.
Orbit uses Apple's push notifications to deliver pings and arrival notes. Notification content isn't used for anything else.
You can delete your account at any time in Orbit: Profile, then Delete account. This removes your profile, connections and pings from iCloud. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device.
Orbit isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
